Install TiniaCode on Windows

From download to finishing first-time setup takes about ten minutes. The build available today is Windows x64.

What you need

  • 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 that can run WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
  • An internet connection — first-time setup downloads the tools and agents it needs.
  • An AI coding agent account — either Claude Code (Anthropic) or Codex CLI (OpenAI) is enough.

1. Download

  1. Download the Windows x64 file from the download section.
  2. Find the file in your Downloads folder. Moving it to a folder you’ll keep (e.g. Documents\TiniaCode) makes it easier to find later.

2. Run it

Double-click the TiniaCode .exe you downloaded. There’s nothing to install — the file is the app, so pin a shortcut to your desktop or taskbar.

3. First-time setup

The first time you open the app, "First-time setup" walks you through a few steps. You can change all of them later in Settings.

  1. Language — pick the interface language. It applies right away.
  2. Look — pick a light or dark look.
  3. Environment — checks for Git, Node.js 22 or later, and tmux. If WSL or a Linux distribution is missing, you’ll see "Install WSL…" and "Install Ubuntu…" buttons. If Windows asks to restart, restart and open the app again to pick up where you left off.
  4. Agents — shows the Claude Code and Codex installs it found. One is enough. If one is missing or needs signing in, use the "Install" or "Sign in" button. See Getting started for details.
  5. Profile — fill in the basics as prompted.
  6. Folder — choose the project folder you want to work in. Don’t have one yet? Choose "Later — go to an empty workspace". Folders inside WSL (under ~) are the fastest.

Once setup is done, "Take the tour" walks you through the layout step by step.

4. Moving to a new version

The current version doesn’t update itself. When a new version comes out, download the new file from the download section, close the app, and run the new file instead of the old one. Sign up for "update news" under the download button and we’ll email you when a new version is out.

Notes and to-dos inside your project folder (the .tiniacode folder) and your Git history stay exactly where they are when you swap the program file.
